The Friday evening when “it is just one small manual command” is the start of many incidents. GitOps removes the problem at the root: the desired state of the system lives in Git, and an agent applies it automatically.

The principle

You do not push changes to the cluster; you describe how the cluster should be in a repository, and a tool like ArgoCD continuously reconciles reality with that description. If someone changes something by hand, it is detected (or reverted).

What you gain

  • Repeatability: the same commit produces the same environment, everywhere.
  • Audit: every change is a pull request, with history and review.
  • Trivial rollback: you go back to a previous commit.
  • Less panic: deploys become a non-event.

Where to start

You do not need to revolutionise everything: start with one application, put its manifest in Git, let ArgoCD manage it and grow from there. The value shows up at the first rollback done in ten seconds.

Have a cloud or AI project to take to production? I would be glad to talk.
