The fascinating part of machine learning is training the model. The part that creates value is everything else: getting it where it is needed, reliably and repeatably. This is where experiments die, or become product.
Make everything reproducible
Versioned data, code and parameters: you must be able to rebuild exactly the model that is in production. A model you cannot reproduce is a debt, not an asset.
Serve and observe
- Expose the model behind a versioned API, so you can update it without breaking clients.
- Monitor not only latency and errors, but also drift: real-world data changes and performance drops over time.
- Prepare the rollback: if the new version is worse, you go back immediately.
Start small
A well-made proof of concept — clear use case, real data, a success metric — is worth more than a thousand slides. From there you decide, with data in hand, whether and how to industrialise.
Have a cloud or AI project to take to production? I would be glad to talk.
