Between a deploy and a bedtime story, I realised that the tools I use to keep a complex system running also work for a life made of work, family and passions. It is not a forced metaphor: it is the same way of thinking.

Define your personal SLOs

In production an SLO is the level of service you commit to guarantee. In life it means deciding in advance what really matters — dinner with the kids, an hour to read — and protecting it like a critical service. What you do not measure and defend disappears.

Automate the repeatable

Every minute spent on mechanical things is taken from what matters. Automating, at work as at home, frees energy for the decisions that deserve attention. Time is the only resource that does not scale.

Accept load, not overload

A healthy system works under load, but not beyond its limit. Saying no to one more commitment is not laziness: it is capacity planning. You deliver more, and better, when you are not always at 100%.

Perfect balance does not exist — it is a continuous process of adjustments, exactly like keeping a production system healthy. And that is fine.

Have a cloud or AI project to take to production? I would be glad to talk.
